Geneva: GCWA-YWCA partnership in action
Common Concern, a magazine that documents and profiles the work of the movement. Published three times a year, Common Concern, highlights the global issues women and girls face around the world as they relate to the World YWCA's strategic plan.
The World YWCA is a founding member of the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS, and its General Secretary, Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda part of the GCWA Steering Committee. The Global Coalition supported women from diverse communities to attend the IWS and collaborated with partners to host two breakout sessions during the event. One was designed to share the outcomes from the High Level Meeting (HLM) on AIDS, held in June 2011, and examined the implications for women and girls in their continued lobbying efforts. The other briefed delegates on the UNAIDS Agenda for Women and Girls, and explored ways that women in communities can advance the Agenda and ensure country responses to HIV and AIDS include the epidemic’s impact on women and girls. These sessions were supported by other GCWA partners, the Athena Network, ICW and World AIDS Campaign; and were designed to ensure women’s organisations, including YWCAs, continue to prioritise the response to HIV and AIDS in their efforts to advance women’s rights.
