Global / GCWA: In Memory of Robert Carr
The Global Coalition on Women and AIDS (GCWA) is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Robert Carr, who had recently assumed the position of co-chair of the GCWA. Robert’s kindness, wit and insight were an asset to anything he focused his energy on. Tireless and determined, as someone unafraid to mention the unmentionable or to ask the most challenging question, he was an invaluable advocate, visionary and human rights defender. He was also a friend, a mentor and bridge-builder for many in the human rights, HIV, women’s rights and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights movements – with the Caribbean region and globally.
His commitment to transforming gender norms and working towards a more just life for all was a true inspiration. Through his work he contributed enormously to an HIV response which spoke to gender equality and human rights. Through his profound belief in equal rights and justice, he inspired countless people, energy and action around the globe. Robert’s inspiration, beliefs and commitment remain and we shall honor his memory and his legacy by continuing to strive for a world that truly leaves no one behind.
