Global: Launch of the PACT Parental Consent Survey

 The PACT, a collaboration across 25 youth-led and youth-serving organisations, with support from UNAIDS, has launched a parental consent survey for young people (under 30) to gather their opinions on how parental consent laws impact their access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and harm reduction services and, importantly, collect information on their first-hand experiences. One of the five goals underlined in the framework of the PACT is to eliminate the legal and policy barriers that young people face in accessing SRH and harm reduction services across the world, starting with

GCWA: The GCWA commends the ICW Global for its leadership and joins its call to Namibian authorities to uphold the SRHR of women in all their diversity

The Global Coalition on Women and AIDS commends the International Community of Women Living with HIV for its leadership and joins its call to Namibian authorities to uphold the sexual and reproductive rights of women in all their diversity, and to put an end to forced or coerced sterilization of women living with HIV Since 2008, lawsuits against the government of Namibia have been filed for sterilizing women living with HIV, without their consent.

The forced and coerced sterilization of women living with HIV is a serious violation of our fundamental human rights to bodily integrity, informed consent and to our rights as women to make our own reproductive choices. Forcible and coercive sterilization is a widespread form of institutionalized violence against women and a part of a systemic pattern of violations of the sexual and reproductive rights experienced globally by women living with HIV.

European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights: EU-wide survey on violence against women

What emerges is a picture of extensive abuse that affects many women’s lives but is systematically underreported to the authorities. The scale of violence against women is therefore not reflected by official data. This FRA survey is the first of its kind on violence against women across the 28 Member States of the European Union. It is based on interviews with 42,000 women across the EU, who were asked about their experiences of physical, sexual and psychological violence, including incidents of intimate partner violence (‘domestic violence’).
